Lighthouse was a visionary platform at the forefront of AI-enabled home security, using machine learning and computer vision to deliver powerful, real-time insights. Their technology could distinguish between a dog walker and a child coming home from school, identifying anomalies traditional systems often missed. When ready to redesign their camera, they turned to level.

level partnered with Lighthouse, the Silicon Valley stealth startup, to evolve their acclaimed but costly first-generation camera into a more approachable, elegant, and affordable product. Our redesign preserved the character the founders loved while reducing manufacturing complexity and supporting new components. Inspired by the “Superegg” form, we softened the geometry to improve both emotional appeal and technical function.

We engineered a versatile mounting system that allowed the camera to work on walls or tables, with a magnetic base for flexible positioning. Dozens of mockups helped refine proportions, airflow, and cable management. The result was a sculptural, user-friendly product that quietly blended into homes - and ultimately helped position Lighthouse for acquisition by Apple.
